Second Meeting: Planing the "Hello World Demo"

We have talked about the Hello World Demo and what will be included in that. But we thought that it would be best if we just planned our final product at once and show what we have managed to
accomplish to the 19th of February.

Linette is working on integrating vue.js to our project. Li is sketching our visualization. Axel is searching for different CSS templates. Mats is looking at different D3 templates.

We have noticed that we all lack experience with vue.js.


Temporal end product and its features:

• A map of the world
• Dark colors (background) and lighter colors on the different countries
• Have different color intensities depending on how the revenues from that country
• Low intensity (low revenue) - High intensity (high revenue)
• A search bar
• to search a film
• Movie info screen (low prio)
• After a film is selected, information about that film will be displayed

Hello World Demo:

Linette and the rest of us are creating a Hello World Demo on Adobe Illustrator.

Good ideas: 

• Select a country, get information from that country
• top 10 best rated movies 
• see "arrows" which shows where the revenues from a specific film or all films made in that country comes from
• Select on or more countries
• only able to search films from that/those countries
• compare the amount of revenue between the selected countries
• Year slide
• Changes the map data depending on what is selected (revenue) and what year is selected

First meeting with the group

Today was our first group meeting. We started by talking about what project we were going to do. One of the proposals was a correlation between the weather and traffic jams, but we ended up with a project idea related to movies.

Our first project idea was a visualization were you would have a map of earth in which you could choose a country and get the top 10 movies made in that country based on ratings.

Our second project idea, which is our minimal viable product, is still a map of earth, but there will be a search bar were you can search for a movie title and see the distribution of box office gross from each country. The visualization will be to have each country have a hue depending on the amount of box office gross.

Possible improvements

• For each country
• Show top 10 (or more) films based on total box office gross 
• Show top 10 best rated films made in that country
• Chose a year
• Chose what will be shown at each country
• Each country will have a color representing the total box gross from all the top 10 films

Our main source of data is omdbapi.com. We can anything from movie titles, what year it was made to the ratings of that movie, from sources like IMDB, Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes.

We talked a lot about the presentation and who would say what, and also about the work distribution. We're still not one hundred percent sure how we will be distributed.
